Dimitar (Dimitrie) Todorov

Dimitar (Dimitrie) Todorov was born June 25, 1972 in Burgas, Bulgaria. Dimitrie’s spiritual journey began when in 1986 his youthful curiosity and seeking mind needed answers to the growing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians on the West Bank and in Gaza. His many questions couldn’t find a logical answer until he asked his father (who wasn’t a born again Christian) where he could find more information about the Jews and their history. His reaction was, “Well, go find a Bible somewhere!” It wasn’t easy to find a Bible in 1986/1987. Bulgaria was still under Communist rule.

By a divine appointment, Dimitrie was walking the streets of his town when he met a Christian woman who saw him looking for people around the only Evangelical church in Burgas. She talked to him and led him to a place where she secretly gave him a Bible to read. As Dimitrie says, “I was struck with the greatness of God displayed in the first books of the Bible and I deeply desired to get to know the God of the Jews (as I would refer to the God of the Old Testament).” God captivated His youthful mind with the manifestation of power and wisdom in leading His chosen people out of the land of Egypt and into the Promised Land and gradually Dimitrie’s heart began to change – he started to seek private moments where he could pray and express his thoughts before the Lord. God’s Word was doing an invisible but mighty work in him!

In 1991, Dimitrie’s was transformed by the Power of the Word and the Spirit of the Lord when was reading the New Testament and at the same time Dimitrie met the first American missionaries that came to His town after the fall of the Communist regime. They took him alongside to help them in the first big evangelistic events in his town. He witnessed how people were coming to Christ and confessed their sins. His heart was filled with the Spirit of the Lord and he joined the one of new local churches in Burgas. In 1996 Dimitrie became an assistant youth pastor and from 1998-2001 he pastured a small church fulltime. In 1998 Dimitrie married a beautiful Christian woman – Maria. They have two children – Victoria (8) and George (3).

Dimitrie’s heart has always gone out to the young people and their needs and before He joined New Hope - Bulgaria he has worked in youth evangelism through printed materials, and prepared and administrated socio-religious projects serving the needs of the poor and the orphans and abandoned children in Bulgaria.
